I dont mind paying for some nice parts but sometimes it gets crazy. I saw a maverick gas cap that was all pitted and mangled and the guy was asking 125$, then a week later the same type of gas cap listed for 5$ by someone else. Same thing with fenders there is one guy asking 325$. Once his was listed at 325 then 4 or 5 others jumped on at 200$. A month ago you could buy them all day long between 75-125$.

Anyone else notice this up and down of prices on our parts?

I have to say this but if you don't like it, don't buy it. Pretty simple. If the parts are priced too high and they don't sell, the sellers will then be forced to lower the price or keep the stuff. Capitalism at its finest!

They eventually come back down to whatever one is willing to pay. Depends on how bad you need the part.:)

No one is complaining about the cost of parts. Im mentioning the fact that the prices are so uneven. It seems like there is no middle ground. Either its so cheap you feel your stealing it or its so over priced you feel its better to wait for another one to show up on ebay.

It's been that way even since I can remember. There for awhile the Deluxe gas caps in nice shape were goign for $25-$35, Then all of the sudden someone ran one up to well over $100 and they were ALL sellign for that, and the plain cas caps starting selling for $25-$35. Then I kept my eyes on the auctions and they came back down to middle of the road for the Deluxe caps and I wound up getting my Deluxe cap for around $20 shipped to my door. Now I think they are back up sky high again.

The real pisser of it all is EVERY stinking maverick that I have ever owned and sold had those deluxe gas caps on them and most of them prolly ended up in the junk yard. little did I know I was throwing away $100 buck for each of those damn things.

Other parts are the same way.. They go sky high then all the people that were buying them up for the big prices get what they need and the prices go back down. Has a tendancy to run with the seasons too.

Winter time when everyone has the cars in the garage and time to work on them prices go up because guys are buying the parts they need to finish up the winter projects

I think alot of the "price pressure" is because people are scrambling to sell stuff - and make money because of the economy. I have collected, repaired and restored classic pinball machines since 1998. Used to be, Craigslist postings were few and far between. NOW, postings are all over the map - with a price to match - because people are trying to unload stuff that they THINK is gold.

Yes, people will pay what they will if they want it bad enough. It has NOTHING to do with "capitalism" (as the previous poster described), it has EVERYTHING to do with supply, demand, and the economy.

    :cry:I dont need meth money

    I need Mav money :yup:

As a seller on ebay I never start my auctions at more than I feel I would pay for the part, its the bidders that have driven the price up. Sellers see what other people are getting for the stuff and figure that that is the going value.

Yes prices have gotten higher but they are coming back down now

I just won an ebay auction that had 4 tires off a 72 Grabber that was stolen off the dealers lot in 1972. The car was involved in a major crime and held in an impound yard till a couple months ago. I won the auction for the NOS air in the tires for $16.00. I think that is very fair.

Yes, Mr. Selvey you are correct. And at $3.20 a tire the price was right. Oh and I got a deal on shipping too., it was air mail. Ended up with 155 psi of NOS air. Great deal in my opinion. Hope there are no copywrite laws violated here. Just trying to keep it in the spirit of a maverick.
