Yep, do it yourself and save, very easy to do. I got a w/s here for $160 from service auto glass. Get a new weatherstrip and rope it in. Easy-peasy:)

YAH try doing it yourself and if you have any rust you can deal with it // or you can paint the dash when the windshield is out ???? :yahoo:

In some cases removal is necessary. On my Pinto wagon, years of leaves collecting on the car ate a very nice hole into the cowl, which conveniently dumped water onto the floor, rusting it as well. Removal of the windshield revealed some unseen damage and rust beneath the gasket, which was long since spent.

It WAS a mess, the windshield is still out but the rust repair has been completed. Just not sure if I want to tackle the reinstallation myself; I've heard some lousy stories of poor resealing!

Oh, and I forgot to add - removing the windshield allowed me to pull the whole dash, and get to restoring all the underdash components as well. The dash will be perfect when I reinstall it, freshly painted with a NOS pad.

I called up some other places and most of them had small heart attacks on the phone when I told them I don't need the glass changed but only the gasket. I don't want to have someone do it that has never done the job so I'll keep searching for a place to do it for me. It's not the kind of job I think I wanna try without seeing someone do it, really don't wanna have to pay someone to redo it.

Jay I'm on my way, seriously! And that's a 6 pack each right?
When can we do it, tell me when you are free. I usually have Mon and Tue and Fri off. Fridays are really good. I have the gasket and I really would prefer to keep the glass. The glass aint in the best of shapes but the whole point of restoring an old car is to keep as much as the old stuff as possible.

thanks Brian for all the advice, but I think I'm gonna try it with Jay rather than by myself. But we'll take pics and if you still do the write up we can post a sweet how-to.

Texasjack, I have a 72 that I need a windshield. I know it's been a while since you posted this. I live over here in Joshua and work in Godley. Is there someone here locally that can get windshields fo Mavericks.
