Yep, do it yourself and save, very easy to do. I got a w/s here for $160 from service auto glass. Get a new weatherstrip and rope it in. Easy-peasy
hey Brian I actually would really like to know how to do it myself. I should fly you down here to do it for me . . . roundtrip trip ticket to California shouldn't cost as much as the price those guys quoted me!
Hey never been to California got a old high school girl friend out there would love to come and do it .....man hope the wife doesn't read this....lol ..........pm me you can do it not hard at all!!!!!!!!
YAH try doing it yourself and if you have any rust you can deal with it // or you can paint the dash when the windshield is out ????
In some cases removal is necessary. On my Pinto wagon, years of leaves collecting on the car ate a very nice hole into the cowl, which conveniently dumped water onto the floor, rusting it as well. Removal of the windshield revealed some unseen damage and rust beneath the gasket, which was long since spent. It WAS a mess, the windshield is still out but the rust repair has been completed. Just not sure if I want to tackle the reinstallation myself; I've heard some lousy stories of poor resealing! Chris
Oh, and I forgot to add - removing the windshield allowed me to pull the whole dash, and get to restoring all the underdash components as well. The dash will be perfect when I reinstall it, freshly painted with a NOS pad. Chris
I called up some other places and most of them had small heart attacks on the phone when I told them I don't need the glass changed but only the gasket. I don't want to have someone do it that has never done the job so I'll keep searching for a place to do it for me. It's not the kind of job I think I wanna try without seeing someone do it, really don't wanna have to pay someone to redo it.
Mo Due you need the glass OR just the gasket change????????? If you just need the gasket change drive up to moreno valley with a 6 pack of Coors lite and we will change the gasket then AFTER we are done we will have a cold COORS LITE then set under the pepper tree and bull st!! .. Jay I have all the tools we need
I read all the how to's & tried to do it myself. It leaked like crazy. I called all the places in town to find out who is the best at old school cars. Let them remove & replace gasket & it leaked like crazy. I called them back. They came again & it still leaks like crazy.
Jay I'm on my way, seriously! And that's a 6 pack each right? When can we do it, tell me when you are free. I usually have Mon and Tue and Fri off. Fridays are really good. I have the gasket and I really would prefer to keep the glass. The glass aint in the best of shapes but the whole point of restoring an old car is to keep as much as the old stuff as possible.
thanks Brian for all the advice, but I think I'm gonna try it with Jay rather than by myself. But we'll take pics and if you still do the write up we can post a sweet how-to.
I'll give you a hollar. This week is a little hectic. Next week if it's ok with you. Man, this is great.
Texasjack, I have a 72 that I need a windshield. I know it's been a while since you posted this. I live over here in Joshua and work in Godley. Is there someone here locally that can get windshields fo Mavericks.
