Hey everyone, sorry I havent been here...my car took a poop on me and I couldnt figure out how to get it working, so I bought me a truck...lol I just recently got the itch to restore it again when the end-of-summer car shows started popping up, and Ive been kicking myself in the butt for not working on it Anyways, my truck just got done having a similar problem, and Im thinking the same problem is the issue with the maverick not starting...I dont have any power at all, when I try to jump it itll do nothing but click click click really loudly(not sure if its the solenoid or starter). Anyways the problem with the truck was a broken ground, so I assumed thats the case with the Maverick, so I took all ground wires out and replaced/reran them...same problem...I removed the starter yesterday and had it tested today, and its good. Right now Im replacing the fusible link to the solenoid and the cable running from the solenoid to the starter...while I have everything torn apart is there anything else that I can replace to help the situation or anything else I may have overlooked? BTW I have the grounds running as follows: Battery -> Alternator Bracket Battery -> Solenoid Mount -> Body It was installed this way when I got the car, and as far as I can see I dont have any frame grounds at all(assuming the frame is grounded with the body), the truck had all 3 looped into each other...so Im assuming the car would too, correct? I heard its never bad to have too many grounds, so should I add a few extra discreet ones that cant be seen?
Jeff I would run grounds from batt to engine block than engine block to body / frame .. Check your cables for swelling .. If you have corrosion on the cable the insulation will swell causing a high amperage draw and the cable is junk..
Didnt test the battery yet, meant to today but I forgot to take it with me, I had it tested a few months back and it was good, not sure how much a few months of no use would kill a battery...wouldnt think itd be that much, but I dont know. Thanks for the tips, will do :Handshake Done it a few months ago when the problem first arose and it didnt help it. OH YEAH, I remember that someone was building a derby car (1986? Ford LTD) last month and gave me a "Short Circuit" box thats below the solenoid, I hooked it up and the car started right up and ran until I shut it off, but after I shut it off I wasnt able to get it running again...now Im wondering if theres something shorting out blowing that box...theres 4 wires running to it, anyone know where each one leads?
Got it running, replaced all battery cables and a few more wires (including the fusible link) and it started up fine Now the car will be ready for some shows next year, I got all winter to work on the body and interior
