Yes I had one in the Comet but went with an AOD so yes they will fit. The Comet had long tube headers.

I think you are talking about a c-5. It has the locking torque converter which is a good thing. It should fit but I'm told it is slightly longer maybe 1" to 1 1/2" longer. May require shortening the driveshaft. Good luck.:burnout:

The only difference between C5s and C4s is the valve body, bell housing, and converter.

The entire gear train and main case is the same as the C4

I don't think all c5's were case filled but am not going to argue. Have it your way.

I had been under the belief that the C-5 was a pan fill trans. Please check this link and read the 'nomenclature' part.

    http://mmerlinn.tripod.com/trans/notes/fbbnotfd.htm

It may not have had anything directly to do with the topic. I did not know for sure if there had ever been a pan fill c-4. At the same time it was my belief a c-5 was only a pan fill because of the larger bellhousing (164 tooth ring-gear) and the need for a little more room in the tunnel for it to fit.

As pointed out in the "nomemclature" there is confusion on the term C5.

    If I'm wrong, I stand corrected.

To go back to the original question, yes a pan fill C4 or C5 will fit. It does have the larger bell, and takes the 164 tooth flexplate, which has the same bolt pattern as the AOD torque converter does. The torque converter must be one for a pan fill due to this larger bolt pattern. So if you are using a late 5.0 with the 50 oz balance, a 164 t flexplate for an AOD should work fine, that's what I used. I went through all this when I was building my car. Mine is a pan fill from a 77 Granada that had a 351W in it factory. I don't know about other brands, but the Hooker 6901 headers fit fine with no clearance problems.
