Hmmm... Not to hijack this thread or anything but.. about how much of an improvement should I expect to see from switching from my 3.00's to some 3.73's?
My 2 cents right or wrong. Had my first car at the track and blew the 275's off like it was on snow. Couldnt get the car to run any quicker than 13.80 An old racer shows up to give me some help. He owned the speed shop I bought my stuff from and he raced Pro. for 25 years. Gave him my keys and said have fun. He dropped the pressure drove right past the burnout pit. Spun up the tires to clean them off and that was it. The car hooked a ton better even though he still rolled into it a bit. Made a few passes laughing his ass off. Fastest run 12.8 to my 13.8 Experience rules I guess. It worked on that day anyhow. He told me not to heat up the street tires they get worse. This was almost 20 years ago. Maybe tires are different now???
I was told the same as Darren... Slicks, get in the box and do a burnout... Street tires, keep them dry and cold, with low pressure...
Not too sure what I'm running now... The last time I tested was when I finished my round of bolt on's and what not, down on a deserted service road at the Long Beach docks. I had two friends, one flagging and the other with a stopwatch and ran a quarter mile marker(at least what our inebriated brains perceived to be, yes I know... Alcohol and cars don't mix, I had a friend killed by a drunk driver and that scared the belief in me..) and ran a 14 flat. The car's got the usual stuff, headers, manifold, 4 barrel, points eliminator kit and a shift kit in the C-4(Transgo.) According to the previous owner, the heads had been rebuilt and "hogged out a bit" with bigger valves, presumably. I however, have not cracked the seals on the engine so I can't confirm this
I would help you out too. I got my 26x10 Hoosiers for free. This guy brought a friend of mine the slicks and a 2 16" rims!!! Then never came back to get the tires or rims!
Burnouts on street radials just make them worse.I use to run my Torino on street radials and drove around the water box did a couple of dry hops and staged.It ran mid 14s in the quarter and ran almost dead on the number every time.About a year ago I tried to run my ranchero and there was no way around the water box which was more like a pond with the amount of water they were throwing down so I did a burnout to at least try to dry them off and had a 60' just under 3 seconds and ran a 17.20 at 99mph with the car hooking up just before the end of the track.When I went through the traps I had to roll the window down so I could see since the cab was full of tire smoke. Look around I see people selling used drag radials and ET streets all the time pretty cheap.If you have any local Mustang forums those guys alway seem to be selling them cheap.I didn't look to see where you are located but in central Texas there is a forum called Lonestarstangs.com and they pop up quite often.I even bought a 86 GT that had a pair of ET streets on it and I paid $75 for the whole car because a tree had fallen on it.
Gone 70..Yes it was at Little River.That track was like racing on snot.I haven't been there since they fixed it but I will be there with a friend in 2 weeks with his model a truck with a 347.
Yeah, I heard it was a nice track now, well at least the 1st 1/8 mile. I will be there sometime this month with the 464 truck I mentioned before. Is your friend apart of the Hooligans?
I believe so.Some car club that was based out of Denver which is where he is from.I can't keep up with all the car club names.His name is Rob and it's a 30 model a truck with a World Windsor SR. headed 347 and a tri-power.We got it running last weekend so we'll see if he can drive the thing.
