What would it take to take a 1973 Ford Maverick bumpers off and custom make plastic moldings in the rear and front end to make it look like it was never built with bumpers.
Why would you want to do that? ha it would probably be alot of work and first time you get hit you have no protection
there were a few pics floating around with people who had their bumpers off. I don't remember who. But it would certainly take some fab work. If you take the bumpers off you could probably make the stock bolt on locations to work for you with some modification. The bumbers you'd have to make out of probably some fiberglass resin and also would have to figure out a way to mount them to the studs.
First off it would take a few hand tools and sockets to remove the bumpers and mounting brackets. Secondly it would take imagination to envision what you want in the end. Thirdly you would need to make a mold of what you want in reverse. Fourthly you would need to come up with an injection pressurized sealed system to apply the resin, or whatever the material would be of your end result product. This would give you a creation that would be even, no pinholes and strong. Fifthly you would either use your existing brackets, or fabricate your own. Sixthly you would need fabrication skills, a place to work that has cover/power/tools and room to get this project done. Seventhly you would need a secondary vehicle to drive during this process. Eighthly you would need to change the Illinois state law pertaining to IDOT regulations requiring your car to have DOT approved bumpers, unless of course you are building a total custom car that will not be licensed for street use.
Look up 65 Shelby, R-model on Google images to get an idea of what no bumpers may look like. These cars are very similar to early Mustangs when it comes to the small bumpers.
if you are up to this challange a way to do it is after you get the bumpers of you get some sheets of styrafoam and use it to fill in the areas you want to fill. carve it to the shape you want. remove it. make molds of it either out plaster paris or fiberglass. then you can make fiberglass pices from the molds. if you pull it off im sure there will be some members that would be interested in the pices.
yeah your right i wish i had something like that u know what i really need is front Granada disc brakes.
