Finally got all the accessories re-attached, and FINALLY got the damned thing topped off with Type F (I couldn't believe how much it takes to fill up a dry transmission, converter, and cooler) and took it for a spin. It shifts HARD! Absolutely no flare between 2 and 3, and just SNAPS into gear!:bananaman It is shifting a bit high, and I couldn't even get it into 3rd in the neighborhood. It went into third around 4500 or 5000 rpms on the highway, but I am sure that is just the adjustable vacuum modulator over-adjusted. As soon as the headers cool down a bit, I will loosen that thing up and get it to shift at a decent rpm. By the way, What IS a decent RPM for the car to shift at?
The stock governor with shift at close to 4800 - THAT is a GOOD place to shift with a street car. The modulator adjustment will NOT affect WOT shift points. The modulator only affects part throtle shift points. If you have a stock rear gearing then it will be speeding before it shifts into 3rd at WOT.
I am running 3.80 gears on 27" tires on the street, 26" slicks on the track. I "adjusted" the old modulator on the old tranny so it would shift at around 3500 on a leisurely cruise through a red light. I wanted it to hit 2nd about the time I cleared the intersection, not be in 3rd already. So I ordered a new modulator so I can keep track of where it is adjusted at. I have NO idea where the current one is adjusted to, and I don't want to mess this transmission up over an $8 part that is incorrectly adjusted.
"Sure is nice having a new and tight tranny!!!" Out here in CA, you have to be careful with statements like that!! Remember, this is the cereal state. The land of freaks, fruits, flakes and nuts. Was driving down in the Hillcrest area of San Diego about a week ago. From a distance, the person walking towards me looked like a fairly well put together woman, but as it got closer, small details started to become apparent. Like the adams apple that stuck out as far as the chin, the hands that could palm a watermelon and the 5 o'clock shadow at 11:00 AM.
