NAMCC North American Maverick Comet Club Hello Folks ,so the first major meet for the NAMCC was held at Mission Raceway at the Mega Ford Weekend, it was the greatest time had by all. The weather was perfect ,the racing was great ,the food and entertainment was perfect and the car show was REALLY GOOD ( Judging was done by the Ford Galaxy Club, President ,Vice president and one of there senior members ).We had 2 American guests and 12 Canadians for a total of 14 cars came to the first NAMCC event .6 cars raced and the rest showed .Everyone who showed up got a NAMCC Dash Plaque, all received a prize that were donated by local bussinesses,LORDCO Auto Parts ,Wakefield Sperling Auto Parts and the Great Canadian Oil Change. Best racer trophy was donated by Fraser Valley Engine Rebuilders. All of the trophies were donated by myself, Jimmy, and Bev. P.S our American friends had NO PROBLEMS coming to Canada and returning to the U.S. It appears that we finally have a West Coast International Maverick Comet meet through the NAMCC. I want to thank Jimmy & Bev for an awesome time. This was the first time in 4 years, that I had my car go down the track. Even after a 3 hour drive to Canada, the car ran down the track in the mid 15's. After that first run, I was determined to break into the 14's. I kept getting better & faster on Saturday. But just couldn't break into the 14's. I was trying different size slicks. All the way up to 28" (thanks Jimmy). The best I could do on Saturday was 15.29 @ 89mph. Cliff came over & adjusted my carb, & helped me get the car timed. I told Jimmy & Cliff that on Sunday I would get into the 14's. That was my goal. On the first run I decided to try my stock 14" street tires. Put the air pressure down to 12lbs. Did my burnout. And ran a 14.95 @ 91mph. WooHoo!!!! I made my goal. I did a total of 7 runs this weekend. Then a 3 hour drive back home. The weekend came to an end to soon. Can't wait for next year. Gotta love a daily driver that can get down the track in 14 seconds. Hopefully next year I can get into the mid 14's. Here's some pics:

Here are my quickest time slips from Sat 12th & Sun 13th. Keep in mind it was driven to & from the track (3 hour drive each way). I'm #1973.
Here was a picture that was taken by a professional photographer. It's of Paul & myself on our first run on Saturday. Had to scan the photo. Hope it comes out well....
Pic turned out great. I'd put my slips up, but after generating 60-70 more horses to go .2 seconds slower...well...it just looks like it's time to retire. No more anger fits, disappointments, frustration etc, etc. I'm thinking of a Viking style funeral pyre for the rig. Damn, that would be an awesome way to end it...don't ya think?
Practice practice practice, you cant go to the track once in awhile and expect to go faster just because you added more horses, you have to learn where to launch at where to shift at get your 60' down and weather plays a big factor on performance, not that I am a proffesional drag racer but I did get my car to go 12.80s when I never thought it would get into the 12s and owe it to learning what the car liked through practice. Besides you wouldnt fry that pretty Comet I know you better than that, but it would go faster if you took the motor out and put it in a Maverick
I was thinking the same thing!!! Wow!!! You guys musta thought you were in heaven! Parts cars everywhere!!! LOL...seriously, that was a great turnout! Glad you guys had a good time.
Yeah, I'm the impatient type I suppose. The local track has zero drags in September and only a couple T & T's in October (when it's raining often) so my opportunities are pretty much shot this year. Drop the motor in a Mav? I could do that, but then all that effort and time to end up torching it anyway...I'd probably just take the shortcut and go straight to the spectacular 55 gallon petrol blaze.
Come on Paul! Don't take it so seriously. Heck I know I'll get beat any day of the week, by other Maverick/Comets. But, I don't care. I have fun. That's what it's all about. Just go & have fun. If it exceeds you expectations, then that's icing on the cake. You gotta go again next year. I'll have Jimmy make sure you're able to get a motel room close by. That way you'll get some sleep. Have to stay both days next year. There will be more cars, I know it....
