My whole thinking on this thread had nothing to do with investment (my wife knows I've blown that out the window with my cars), or Corbins car. I just wanted to know "by the numbers" how rare a Sprint really was. Once again, it is very hard to have any useful discussion on this board, without jacka$$ responses, or people getting upset over nothing. All I was interested in was the numbers, and how rare they are, that's it. And I think that the numbers don't lie. It answered my question. Plus, how do you tell the tone of a post? you must have preconceived ideas about what someones getting at? No one is shooting down Sprints, i was just trying to figure something out...
I still don't see the prices on these cars going UP in the last 5 years. I watch EVERY Maverick on ebay.....and I watch closely the trader publications, craig's list, etc. I see prices going down. Nothing to do with the cars themselves. I would say it is 100% the economy. Once we have a full recovery....then the prices will start to go up....but never to the point I would say they are "thru the roof". Case in point: How many 16 year olds are on here that have a Maverick....or how many father's have just recently joined the forum because they have purchased their son/daughter a Maverick to drive as their first car? This doesn't happen with cars that prices are going thru the roof on. This happens with cheap cars that are plentiful to be found. Again...I would LOVE to see the prices on these cars and parts skyrocket, but I don't foresee that happening.
Sorry Dave we did kinda high jack your thread you are right that if we were talking about a 60's mustang it would the less made the more it is worth .but for some odd reason everybody goes gogogaga over a sprint hope I am not one of those jackaxx :Handshake
Ask the guy with a $15,000 Maverick how much money he has in it. Thinking of these cars as an investment is a joke.
Are all cars collectible? You betcha!!! I bet all those Chrysler K-Car people think their cars are collectible too. What do you know....they DO!!! http://www.chryslerkcar.com/ They have a club, a forum, meets...and everything. See folks....it's not just us!!
I don't know? Write a movie script starring Angelina Jolie & Nicolas Cage with a Comet GT being the focus........you never know! You could call it 'Gone in 90 seconds'. After all, these were not muscle cars! Seth
They may not be the most rare for sure, but I agree with some of the other posts in this thread - it depends on how desirable they are and how many are left. There is probably a better chance that a Grabber is saved because it says "Grabber". Just think about how many Sprints might have been repainted because they didn't like the color combo. I wish we could somehow count the current number in existence. Actually, I hope that prices stay the same or go DOWN! That means I'll be able to stay in the hobby. If prices on these cars go too high, it'll price me right out of the hobby - tempting me to sell off everything and get into something else....like...ummm...well...Chevy Citation X-11s I guess.
Jimmy2Gates do you have pictures posted of your 75 Grabber? I'd like to see both the out side and inside, I think thats cool I hope it still has the big bumbers. A 71, 72 hood would be cool on it but I still keep the original hood and big bumpers if you converted them to small bumpers.
Wish I'd said that. Previous reply deleted. Shouldn't expect everyone to get excited about Sprints. :sorry:
Agreed. There are two distinct questions here. Dave's original: How RARE are they (based off production and/or how many are left)? Also, how DESIRABLE are they? I personally like the Sprints AND the Grabbers, and own both. As far as rare colors go - I'm the odd guy that likes the rare color combos like Dave's car, or the brown with yellow stripes.
Hello Maverick group, I found me a Sprint Pinto after looking nearly 20 years. Here is a link for photos of my sprint. No rust but the upholstery is shot. The interior "Plastic" pannels are in GREAT condition....
