OK, anyone out there using the gas fume evacuation aparatus (thing on top of the gas tank) as their return line for EFI? If so, has it worked well? Any drawbacks?
mean maverick In a post a couple of spots below I asked about the rockauto 76-77 gas tank fitting my 74. It sounds like this will fit with longer strap bolts? I want to be sure it is the same length and width as my exhaust is designed to fit around the original 74 tank. Depth wouldn't be a big deal. Why the longer bolts?
Dont have EFI on mine.Did a few other cars though, gutting the vapor valve and useing a good band clamp on the fuel hose seems to do the trick. One guy drag races his 69 nova regularly that I did this for about 7 yrs ago.No problems yet.The other 3... 2 69 mustangs and a 73 Dodge dart are still going fine as well but, they are just cruisers.
You will need a vented cap.I believe its 16 gallon,at least the bigger tank is 19(76/77). if I remeber correctly.
mine comes back in through the vapor line,I changed the rubber connections with FI hose and drilled out the valve on the tank. I added a vent line to my filler neck at the highest point also
mavman72, or anyone else for that matter, does the average local parts shop sell vented gas caps for our cars? Mavman72, you're correct, the 76/77 is 19 gallons, still haven't confirmed the 16 gallon capacity of the 74. Thanks again for the help.
the return side should not have any measureable pressure. if it has any its caused by its own restrictions. you dont need to run efi ruber hose. only the high side needs efi hose. you can use the stock steel fuel line by replacing the rubber sections with the efi hose.
