Looking for help to determine if my 408 strocker with a built-up C4 and a 2800 stall would launch better with a transbrake. Currently unable to hold with foot brake beyond 2000. It will begin to crawl over the line. The old setup with an FMX and a 3500 stall would hold to about 2700 RPM. Any suggestions based on real world experience would be appreciated...:)

I have the same problem with my 308. I keep thinking about a Trannybrake but it would be harder on the parts and I don't want to go any faster. I run a class that has 12.00 as the limit and I've already riun 11.81 with it. I'm thinking of adding some weight bars behind the seats to try and slow it down. As to your question, you might get a little more out of it, but I think the TC is going to limit you. BTW, I run a 4500 stall convertor so I think the trannybrake would let me go up a lot. BTW welcome to the board.:)

That seems about right for a 2800.another factor is rear gear on how your convertor acts.4.56's will let the car be pushed easier than say 3.50's.I dont think a trans brake will gain you much it will only let it go up to the convertors max stall speed. 2800 seems kinda small for a 408,what are some of the engine specs Compression, cam etc..

Thanks for the reply... When I built the 408 I was trying to make it for both street and strip so I kept the compression at 10.5:1. The cam power range is 3500 to 7200 RPM and the rear gear is 9 inch 3.73 with a Diff. Running a 870CFM Holley with the secondary blocked to dump all four at the same time.....this requires getting to an RPM level that will keep you from dropping dead at the line.....Thanks....:yahoo:

    Welcome from Pittsburgh Pa!

Converter is hurting you here as Don said. With the stroke an guessing at power, your tight TC isn't letting engine getting near power band. If you had a heavy car, it would stumble or bog bad.

Find a converter company you wanna use an tell them what you have an are doing with it. They oughta get close to a good stall or you. I got a 78 F 150 with a 400 horse engine in it, had a 3 something stall in it. I pulled my race car trailer with it. I pulled it out an put slightly looser than stock in so it would pull trailer better. Helped in towing but doesn't smoke tire nearly like the old converter!

    Good Luck !
