Running a 302, decent cam, headers, 600cfm carb...any recommendations on a spark plug gap. I am using autolites.
I run .040 with factory Duraspark-II (converted from points). I could run .045 but there's no need to...
some say run it as wide as you can until it starts to misfire. I personally don't think it makes much difference, as long as it's got more than .020" and less than .100" it usually works fine. That is, unless it's boosted or bottle-fed, then you normally have to close 'em up to about .025" or thereabouts to keep the spark from blowing out.
yeah, the MSD can handle that just fine, in fact you could go a lot wider if you wanted to with the MSD...
I think I heard this - once. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2000/07/indexplugs/index.shtml
Another reason for me, is running dome pistons without alot of clearance, it keeps the plug away from the piston so that the plug does not get hit by the piston......been there,,,,,,done that! But it is a very neat subject that alot of people over look. I first learned in a magazine a few years back did a "cheap speed" article and I learned a few little tricks like that.
