Well it could go in the Mav. so I posted it here. It may get moved. Thats OK but its a very important topic. Went to toys r us tonight in search of a car seat. Looking at the ones on the shelf only 2 were made in N.America. I have huge issues with made in asia stuff. My wife gets tired of it sometimes but I'm tired of returning broken items. The lady in the store asked if we had seen the new seat on display. Made by Safety First so the alarm bells went off. I know from our broken crib that safety first is a dorel company that has an asian division. Yep the big comfy lookin seat in teeny little letters says imported from Asia. Went right back to the Britax seat that is made in N.Carolinaand distributed through Canada. Cost a hundred bucks more but is built like a tank. It also gets the best ratings. Big surprize. Had to share this with the car guys on here. I'm thrilled with the product and did my part to keep my girl safe and N.Americans in work. Notice the big made in America flag on the box. I hope production comes full circle and returns to N.America. The companys need to market the product like this one in a box with a huge American/Canadian flag on it to push the made in N.America bit.
Funny you mention that. The original plan when we got home was to take a pic of her in the car with the seat. Then maybe the post wouldnt be moved. We were late though and its bedtime so that is all I could get. Found one with the girls and Papa. It'll have to do for now.
Nothing like strapping a baby in with 37 year old seat belts. Something else to consider...either way, looks like you had a great time!
Britax! We have one of those in each car-Britax Marathon. A friend of mine is a child safety seat instructor for the NC Highway Patrol. I went to him after buying it to make sure that it was installed properly. He said that Britax was consistently one of the highest scoring seats. He also said that he was told that the manufacturer is a division of a racing safety products company in Charlotte, NC. I don't know, but I have felt comfortable with Gabi in hers for the last 2 years.
And the crap we import/produce is so much better?.......our parents/grandparents knew and more importanty were given the right to make things stronger. Nowdays its alot cheapear......just make it strong enough tomeet the minimum standards. Those that came before us knew how to make things last........and they did. As a former peace officer, I can tell you first hand......I would rather cut through 3 new seat belts than one old one. The old ones are thicker and well secured. On the new ones the blade cut through with less efforft. P.S.--- Dave......I pulled a 11 month old out of a 56' Chevy (Yeah I'll get grilled for the C word). and the belts held better than most of the late models......I know the car structure played a role, but the belts held fine. and stronger.
I wouldn't worry so much about the 37 year old seat belts as much as the 37 year old thread holding the seat belt together ... There are threads that have popped on mine, and these will be replaced with 3 way retractables. I think it will make the wife feel a lot more secure, too, having a proper shoulder belt instead of the goofy setup that came in the car originally. This is why racing belts are date-coded, they do age and become less effective. They no longer will pass tech inspection after a few years. Figure it this way ... if a 200 lb guy experiences 3 Gs in a bad crash, that belt has to hold back a flying 600 lb force momentarily. Good lookin' seat there Darren.
The seat belt swap is one thing I really need to do. People cant figure out those 2 piece belts in my car. Its pretty funny.
the u.s. mabe stuff really good back in the days just look at the stangs then and now personaly i like the old ones much better
Darren, I got tired of getting smacked in the head by the shoulder belt (worn-out elastic made them hang low and I'm 6'1"). Was this one of "Ford's Better Ideas" to remind me to wear the shoulder belt? Didn't work ... took them out, but that will be remedied as I put a new interior in the car (NEXT!)
its like that seat belt light in the commercials, only this ones a no-nonsense type. he just smacks ya in the head... either that or you haven't been drinking your v-8 juice. (and no, i don't mean the one that goes under the hood. lol)
Well i haul my kids around all the time in my Comet which have 34 (in October) year old seat belts in it and they are just fine , does that make me a bad person------- WOW. I have more faith in them then the crap that the new seat belts are made of, and the seat belts are not worth much if the pin/ bolt that holds them in breaks or rips out of the floor in an accident, and yes i have heard of this happening a few times in new cars. When have you heard of this happening in an old well maintained car with much thicker floors , belts , bolts etc, etc, etc.
