hey i need a little help. just bought a 1975 maverick and i have a problem right out of the gate. the alternator light was on so i figured the 34 year old alternator was bad, and it was. i drove it one day then the car would not start because of a dead battery. the following morning i replaced the alternator with a brand new one. the light is still on and the battery is still draining dead after almost every trip. if anyone out there knows how to fix this your help would be more than appreciated.

Either a wiring problem, or the voltage regulator. I'd swap the VR first.

if you know anyone with a load tester you can hook that up to your battery and it will tell you if your charging system is charging and it will tell you if you battery is good or need charged. I know my dad has one and we use alot youd be surprised how offten one comes in handy. we just used it on a 11 year old battery and that battery still had very little charge in it but just enoffe to move the needle on the tester i figured it would have been long dead by now.
