I love using ebay to find maverick and comet parts but I have to say that e-bay has really turned into a white trash flee market. I dont know if anyone else has noticed, but everytime i search for something I have to page through 400 listings of chinese made - flee market quality crappy parts. I remember years ago that e-bay was a real good place to find deals but it seems that the deals are getting less and less and people get caught up in the excitment of the auction. I was interested in a dash pad but it sold at 350 dollars.
I agree but I love the fact I bought a complete parts car with a perfect dash pad for less than what that dash pad went for
ive done that 3 times.... but i agree. eBay has really went downhill over the past couple of years. it's filled with alot of 'generic' chinese parts as mentioned, and has completely became a buyer's market instead of an equal market.
My son buys a lot of things on Craiglist and resells them on Ebay. He makes a handsome profit to boot. Maybe Craigslist is the next Frontier. He found me a set of 4 argent styled steel wheels for a '68-'69 Torino with the rings and GT center caps for $60 there. They would have sold for much more on Ebay. All they needed was stripping and repainting, which I have done. They are going on my '72 GT. Jim
Still can get decent deals at times, I won a set of 5 1972 service manuals today for $19.99, 30.00 with shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320406955379
With $30 shipping, it is less of a deal. NPD sells the same manuals for $64.95 each day in their catalog. Their shipping is usually 10% or less of an item. I am sure Mustangs Unlimited up your way is very similiar and since you live there, it would be only sales tax, no shipping. Many sellers are padding their shipping costs to make up for sagging prices on items. Jim
Now, that is a good deal! Sorry for the misunderstanding. Ebay sellers have a tendency sometimes to make a profit on the shipping, too. Jim
seen it yesterday looking for supercharger brackets people bidding higher than you can buy it new brad
No problem and I know about the inflated shipping, I have been ebaying for a long time with over 4000 feedbacks...but you are right, you really have to watch because alot of people are just looking at the price and not the shipping.
I would like to back up to the start of the thread. When you search you are getting way too many items and have to sift through all the junk on ebay. The problem with ebay is a few years ago they totally changed the way the search functions work. The search functions do not steer you towards what you want to find, they send you to countless items that they hope you will buy on impulse. They called this an "improvement" to the search function ---- what they want to do is increase sales of items you didn't even know you wanted ............ Do this test: Go to ebay and type into the search line these three things -- 1970 Ford new -- now do a search. Did it bring back like 1950 items to look at? :16suspect yes, almost 2000 items for sale and they don't have jack to do with what you searched for. Now: Look up at the search line - it should still say --- 1970 Ford new --- look to the right of that line and click on "advanced search". In the advanced screen, you will again see the search keywords words -- 1970 Ford new -- to the right of that, open the drop down menu and select the option -- Exact words, any order" -- and do the search again. You now have only 120 items and EVERYONE is what you originally searched for. Ebay has killed itself by becoming so complicated, nobody enjoys it anymore ............... but it still is a great place to buy and sell unique items ......... Try modifying your other searches and see how easy it is to once again find only the items you wanted - not what ebay wants you to find.
Oh, and I need to add - never use ebays default setting of BEST MATCH as your search preference. That is a whole 'nother thread ..........
Not arguing that point and I agree, good place if your a seller, but most of time items go for more than I would pay as a buyer.
