I would recommend a mildy or very built 302 it will give you all the power you need. You could also stroke it to a 347. Or drop a 351 in there but a built 302 will put u back in your seat..Look for a roller 302 out of a mustang.

no just get a 289 out of a 60s mustang... now that would be cool:dance:

any 302, high rise intake, 4 barrel carb, and mild cam will get it moving:drive:

When i see a 289 in a maverick i think it ruins the value for some reason its like like putting a 144 six cylinder in a maverick theres no point and its just makes it weird lol

I went with the 302 roller. Mine was out of an 87 lincoln mark 7.
Only thing i regret now is that I went way to wild with the cam. Runs like dug, need aftermarket heads or a different cam. I have funds for neither at the moment....Guess I shoould have left it stock and dropped the holley and weiand on it,. to call it a day. at least i could be driving it that way...

yeah, thats kinda big. Im looking at the 281HR (35-302-8) for a 347 buildup.

ok, Im done hijacking. Slipey, I would say the best way is a 302 based small block, find a roller donor somewhere, freshen it up, put some go fast bolt-on's on it and drive it like you stole it.

first you need to figure out what do you want out of this car, drag, everyday driver, street/strip car, then figure out your budget and don't foget about the suspension brakes, if you don't have front disc brakes make sure you do the swap, update the suspension to newer stuff so your car will actually be safe to drive.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Well being a maverick means being different, id rather see a 8k reving 289 or a hopped up 6 in a maverick any day over the cliche 302,and i have a 302 in my car lol.

First, what is in there now, and second, what do you want to do with the car?

My old 77 has a 289 in it.
