Just out of curiosity cause I've never seen it discussed much, but what would be good upgrades for the stock suspension to make these cars handle better?

I'd say good tires, new leaf springs, good shocks, new coils, bigger front swaybar, and add a rear swaybar, in that order.

I lowered my car and used cut-down springs from a Mustang GT in the front, and leaf springs from an E150 van in the rear with 2" blocks (not the whole leaf pack, obviously...) and it made a dramatic difference in cornering ability. My car actually feels nimble, even by modern standards, and I haven't even done the swaybars yet.

I am thinking about adding another leaf and putting truck shocks on the back though. During a recent road trip when I carried a full trunk of tools, spare tire and an entire Maverick AC system in the back it did sag a little. But it would have been impossible before.

Hello gusy, i'm new to the forum, just got myself a 71 Mav..regarding this topic, ebay sells a suspension kit for $550.00 that comes with everything as far as the front goes, have any of you had any experiences with this?

that kit looks good. just make sure the strut rod bushings are rubber not polyurithane. the poly bushings cause the strut rods to brake when lowered, wich that kit does. if they are poly just throw them out and get some moog ones from a local parts store.
