My friend is selling me his 72 Mav. and we added some tranny fluid ( it has a small leak) Saturday and started it up. Smoke came out of the dash vents. He said that was a new one on him. Ive read on the forum that it could be a leak in the heater coil. Has anyone else had this issue?

few questions? Does the car have Air conditioning? when you say smoke was it like a thick smoke or maybe was it more like a foggy misty vapor?
when you say dask vents are you talking about the ones that blow on the windshield or actual A/C vents that come out the dash and blow straight out onto the front seat passengers?

If it was truely smoke then it def. was NOT the heater coil. I would have to guess that you spilled some of that ranny fluid on maybe the manifold/headers and when it got hot and started to smoke the fresh air intake picked it up and sucked it through the A/C vents?

Could something have gotten on the blower resistor coils? Leaves, coolant from a leaky heater core... etc.

Had a Ford F-150 catch leaves on fire in the duct from that before... not fun.

nope. you can try washing them out with a hose or compressed air. your problem is a common problem. the leaves rot out the cowl if they sit wet in there. then you have to pop the windshield out and remove the entire cowl cover to do the sheet metal repair.

if there are some better ideas for removing the leafs the guys on here would know.

The car sounds like it needs a heater core.
