Ford enlarged the Mustang engine bays in '67 to make room for big blocks. Boss '9s weren't installed at the factory, they were installed by an outside company under contract by Ford. They modified the towers and reinforced them to handle the extra weight.
where do you get a boss 429? i think its a great idea! however, its highly unlikely you could find a boss 429 or make one. the heads of a boss 429 have nothing in common with a regular 429, and there was only like 800 built, period. i love the idea, but its an extremely illogical idea. i hope you are very wealthy. its gonna require $$$$$
I read some place that the Boss motor is in reproduction down south some place. Is the Boss 429 the same basic motor that was used in Pro-Stock by Glidden? If so, then they are available. Ed Moss from TCI the street rod guys is racing a '37 Ford AA/G with a Ford Hemi. Runs 6 sec. 200+ MPH 1/4 mile passes.
Well i'm not making a funny Maverick... but I would like to really make the Boss Mav... Does anyone know where I can get info on the Boss 429? I'd like to see engine specs, how the Mustang was built to fit it, etc... Then maybe I can have an idea on where to start. Thanks, Jason:bananaman
Mustang II front end? Will the Maverick grille, fenders, hood.. etc.. bolt up to that? because it would really look gay with the front of a Mustang II.. being that Mustang II's are gay looking anyways... Jason
This is getting to be a pretty common mod, the Mav retains it's appearance, the Mustang II suspension does away with the shock towers and gives you disc brakes and rack & pinion steering. You will still need to do some reinforcing, the Boss 9 is a very heavy engine. Several people on this board have installed this suspension.
theres a complete engine on ebay now for the low low buy it now price of $21,500.....pocket change right?
