trouble starting

    i got a new crank and pistons in my car with a set of headers. and im trying to start it and it wont start turns over and acts like its going to but wont, ot it tries to start and cant
    any ideas

    did you make any changes to your distributor? could be you put the distributor in a bit out of place when you made those changes. I would wait to get an opinion from someone else here on the board but . . . from what I know, you could start out by checking your timing and turn the distributor a very small amount in one direction and see if it makes a difference. You'll have to keep moving in each direction in small increments until you get it to start.

    Check your timing, cylinder #1 ATDC (compression stroke), and the distributor position

    First check timing. Set it at 10* BTDC
    Check Spark.
    Check Fuel.
    Check Air.

    I talked to my mechanic and he said it's probaly timing Ana he said something about the timing chain being at 6 with the crank at 12 witch is what I did but he said do it with the number 1 cyl at tdc.....

    ? are you talking timing marks on the timing chain? 0-0 is the best place to start, unless you have a degree wheel....

    Yea I installed it 0-0 but he said something about haveing the #1 cyl at tdc when the timing chain goes on...

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    so you need to check your T chain to be certain its installed correctly.The pips...dots... witness marks... timing marks what ever you choose to call em should be 12 o'clock on the crank and 6 o'clock on the cam gear...With the #1 piston at TDC...
