When I brake now, the car suddenly shifts to the right. Not violently at all though. But the car seems to just shift hard to the right for some reason. I haven't had a chance to change the calipers on it and I do have new rotors and brake pads.

Has anyone ever experienced this? I will also add, that when I had the drums, the car did shift to the right as well but not as hard as it is doing it now.

    Sounds like the calipers.

Yeah I got the parts from a member here and although he said ther would be no reason to change the valve, I had it done anyway.

I really hope that is what it is. Cause what is happening right now is not fun.

Prop valve doesnt affect left to right. Could be a caliper. I'm assuming you did a front disc conv. So flex hoses are new. If the calipers have been sitting a while you should replace them. Not expensive I just finished my conversion. 28 bucks each at Carquest. These old calipers have steel pistons and dont take well to being open to the atmosphere.

Not something silly like a low tire is it. I had to ask. Seen guys get burned by that before.

Nope on the low tire. But I'll see if Autozone has any calipers specific to these cars. Apparently, these cars only work with some.

make sure you have new pads of course. You can't have one side being totally worn down and the other side brand new. Technically, that shouldn't matter because the pressure would equalize, but still check that.

Most like I agree with above, sounds like your caliper may need rebuilding. Should be able to get them for cheap.

Both sides have brand new pads. And btw, I'm going to try to do this tomorrow. Never really have done brake jobs before, but will the brakes need bleeding again when replacing the calipers?

yea, you gotta bleed them after changing calipers. I've never used the kits to bleed the breaks but they are pretty easy from what I hear. I usually have a friend do the pumping while I do the bleeding.

Did you do the swap? Or was it done at a shop. If it was, take it back to them, and get them to look at it.

The left caliper isnt up to par(hence the pull to the right).piston sticking in bore...hose collapsed...air in caliper...caliper not sliding on mount as it should...Your front end parts are all good right???

Done at a shop. Pretty much told me that the only thing needed was just the new calipers cause everything else they replaced. For some reason they could not get the calipers even though Autozone has them for something like $25.

and yeah, all the parts are good since I got them from grbmaverickmo(Chris) and he's a pretty stand up guy.

I'm sure the parts are good but they should have installed new calipers. My one caliper was back ordered so maybe they had the same problem getting them. If you dont have much experience with brakes I'd take it back and get them to put the new calipers on. Brakes are one thing I'm not wild on guys messing with. Shouldnt even be for sale to the public but thats my just my opinion after what I've seen come in off the street from buddies back yard job. Dont everyone go getting upset with me. Lots of good guys out there that can install but its the few that ruin it for everyone. Our families are out there driving around. Be safe.:thumbs2:

If the drum brakes were doing the same thing...there's one other thing I suggest checking. The bushings on the front of the strut rod could be severely worn. I agree it's probably a caliper but the bushings are worth taking a look at.
You can have someone watch the right front wheel from the side (parking lot test) and see if the wheel is jumping front and back every time you touch the brake pedal. If it's jumping around you may have bad bushings.

I agree with Razorsharp. Check the front end for wear also.
as for having a shop only work on my brakes, I have only had a shop work on my cars maybe twice. Once was a warranty repair on a 93 F150 torque converter that had the SHUTTER. They replaced it and left every bolt on the transmission pan loose. If I had not been looking for trouble I could have lost all the fluid. This was at a Ford shop. I cannot remember the other it was so long ago but it was another warranty job on a Nissan and it was a bad deal as well.
There is no way I will trust my family on some yahoo making maybe $8 an hour to work on the brakes of any car I or my loved ones drive.
