Never really gave it much notice until now, but the driver side cowl on my car may be busted really bad. Took the car to get cleaned today(something I normally do myself actually) and noticed when I got inside some of the soap and water from the washing machine was lying on the floor of my car. If it leaked before I never took notice since it dried up fast enough for me not to notice.

dammit....of all things I wished I had to do last, this was the last thing I wanted to deal with. Any steps to fixing it or would this be something that only a body shop could fix?

Before you freak out about it... Does your car have the cable-operated fresh air vent on the driver's side?

Tell you the truth, ever since I got my car I never really have touched any of the air controls or vents. I'm looking through my Chilton's manual to see if it is identified so I can give you a heads up if I do have it.

    Easy way to tell:

If the car has factory AC you do not have the cable operated vent on the driver's side. If it does not have factory AC it will have the vent on the driver's side.

It's a knob down on the lower left, under the dash. People who don't know any better will snatch these things off trying to pop open the hood. But what it does is open and close a fresh air vent behind the lower dash. Reason I ask is I had carwash foam in my driver's side floorboard once, I drew the same conclusion you did, only to find out I'd left that vent open and that's where it came from.

OH WAIT! that little square rubber thing? Is that what that damn thing does? I've actually have touched that and was getting sort of annoyed at it because it didn't seem to do nothing. If it's pushed in, is the vent opened or closed?

Push it in to close the vent, pull it out to open. Mine's round, but your lower dash is the later type so it might be different.

I believe I have factory air and also have the fresh air vent thingy. Maybe this is another of the weird quirks that ford did. Some had, some didnt type of thing.
