Hey, I've finished cleaning up my engine compartment and engine and have saved my money up. I saw the tech articles on the 2 barrel swap on the straight six. But upon reading it seems people are having clearance issues and I don't want to cut a whole in my hood, it wont match the granny like quality's of my 4 door, heres links to the carb and adapter considered. adapter http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/acartpro/product.asp?productid=91 carb http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/acartpro/product.asp?productid=149 my questions are - will those two products work together and do you think clearance issues will be a problem. i would hate to order everything and have clearance issues. any ideas/help would be appreciated :Handshake
You can eliminate the clearance issues if you mount an adapter flat on the manifold: You have to have the manifold log milled flat and then get an adapter for which ever carb you want to use.
I tried it but it was just too much of a pain in the rear, you will run into problems like, kickdown rod won't match, throttle cable won't match, well depending on the carb, I'm not sure what a kickdown cable cost, or you could go with a floor shift O matic setup but then your steering column won't match, well beeing that as it is you never said tranny type manual or auto, so there you go!
kinda resurecting an older thread... If I'm not concerned about clearance and am kewl with cutting a hole in my hood and just scooping it, does it make a big difference having the manifold milled? Adapters seem to be about 2" thick.. I should be able to scoop that right? (fabbing up a scoop would be cheaper and easier for me than having my log milled). Someone through the MC2100 carb idea at me. From what I read about it, the throttle cable is setup to be pulled backwards... can carbs be mounted backwards to alleviate this problem or is there a more common solution? Thanks guys.
dude. I kept going to fordsix and reading the tech articles not realizing they had an actual forum I'm gonna join and check there too. thanks!
If you don't hog out the hole in the manifold to match the two barrel then you are trying to stuff 10 pounds through a five pound hole..... Yep, it makes a big difference.
do yourself a favor and just search around for any quality machine shops in your area. Talk to them to see how much a conversion will cost you and consider doing that. the conversion will yield way more power(20-30 more HP) compared to the adapter way.
