Working out some of the kinks in this new Mav I picked up. One problems seems to allude me. The mav starts up and runs fine. However, once you get it going, if you start going up a hill, it dies. It seems like it is running out of gas. If you get it on level ground, it usually starts right back up. Sometimes, you have to let it sit for a while though.
So, my question is, anyone know what these could be symptoms of? What is the layout for the 1970 mavs fuel system? Is there a filter in the tank or anything?

Also, on a slightly unrelated note, did the 1970 Mav have a passing gear?

there is a little mesh screen in the fuel sender in the tank, I'm doubtful that's your problem.
therei s a fuel filter right before the carburetor that caused the same exact symptom in my maverick. and after I changed it the car ran uphill like a champ. very cheap part.

IS it relative to fuel level as well? Maybe the fuel pick up is rotten in tank.

Seems that the filter by the carb is relatively new, but the car did sit for a while. I haven't been able to look into the tank yet, so anything in there is still a possibility. I should be able to check both of those things tomorrow. If both of those check out, where should I look next? Fuel Pump?

I can tell you that your best bet is to replace the fuel filter and take her for a test drive. I would be surprised if that doesn't fix it.

you certainly can have other problems going on with ignition etc but that's my best bet.

What carb. are we talking about? Could be a float issue.

Seems we found the problem. At least, it hasn't acted up since. There was an inline filter right by the tank, it was super dirty, the lines were cracked and dry rotted. Oh, and that filter by the tank...was on backwards.
