Hello everyone I am new to this site and want to ask some questions. I have accumulated a pretty decent amount of parts lately and need to figure out what to do with with them. I have a 1972 Maverick Grabber in decent shape with very lttle rust, Its missing some parts [ I am not sure excactly what at this point] but nothing substantial, its gonna need paint and some trim and some interior work. I have got a new 392 Ford racing crate motor and a new Tremec t-56 six speed out of a 04 Cobra. My question is how difficult are parts to find for these cars? I dont know if I should just make it race car or put it back together as a street driver. If its gonna be a race car I wont be concerned to much about trim pieces and interior as I will back half the car and just install a drvers seat. However if the parts arent to hard to find I think it would be a pretty cool street car with a big motor and a six speed.Any help you guys can give me in regards to good sources for things like bumpers and trim and interior parts would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

welcome to the board jim. sounds like you have one heck of a parts pile. if you don't really know what to do with them i still have a little room in my garage. i race my 71 grabber, but i think it'd be neat to have another to run on the street. these cars are starting to be very popular. there's a good amount of parts available from people on this board and there are some very knowlegable maverick enthusiasts here. they can answer most questions that you will have. good luck.:D

Welcome. You will have to be more specific on what you need before we can help you find stuff. There are quite a few of us that have a stock pile of parts so hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult to get what you need. Just let us know.

I really need to decide what to do as far as whether or not to make it a street car, either way I need a set of nice clean bumpers for sure and maybe a grill. Thanks again.

Welcome Trans. A mix of street and race sounds like a nice combo to me. Good bumpers appear here and there. We see some on ebay too. We are here to help get you going.

Welcome aboard!! We're always here to help and give support.

As to the bumpers, they're getting very scarce especially the small ones. The best advice I can give right now is if you have half decent cores, have them rechromed. If I had 25 nice ones right now, I likely could sell them all. Grilles are easier to get.

It sounds like you may have quite a street machine when you're done.

The bumpers on the car are not rusted, they are bent up. I have never had to have bumpers redone, I have always just replaced them. Do you guys know anyone who can straighten them as well as rechrome them? And how long does that usually take? I am Kinda wanting to get this together before the middle of june because our Snap-on dealers rent the local dragstrip for a saturday and I just got rid of my 01 lightning and dont have anything to take to race. I am having the spring perches moved in and a cage and frame connectors installed this weekend and taking it to the painter next week {hopefully} as far as the driveline I will do that at my shop. I am going to make it street car but I am going to put a C-4 in it for now just to expedite things and maybe wait until this fall to install the tremec. I am going to go through all the trim & interior stuff today to see exactly what is missing. One more thing, someone has cut a hole in the hood and it is missing the inserts so a complete hood would be cool as well, if I cannot find one I might try to have this one repaired or just put a glass one on it for now till one comes along.
    Thanks again, Jim

    Jim,

First off, welcome to the board. There's lots of friendly folk here who can help answer anything you throw at 'em.

From my experience (and my buddie's), it's a lot easier on you and your wallet if you determine what you want from the beginning - either a street car or a drag car.

As you probably are already aware, there are so many 'give and takes' to having a fast street car. If you're like me, you can't ever go too fast.

If drag-racing is your passion, the light-weight Maverick is a great candidate for that.

Half-way through my build-up, I had to decide which way to go. I kept making compromises for street use and was getting nowhere.

After a while, I decided to go all out drag. That allowed me to concentrate on a definitive goal without compromise.

Because of the lack of funds right now, I still don't have it on the track yet, but it's been a lot easier on me after I made a decision.

Now, on the other hand, these Mavericks make for some sweeeeet looking street cars.... ;)

    Good luck,

    Rick

Welcome to the board Jim, your at a crossroads many of us have faced. Although I love taking the car to the strip and running it I decided to keep mine a street car, these cars are great either way. Their ability as a strip car is legendary, but they are fastly becoming a popular street beast as well.
Good Luck with either way you decide...ultimately you do what makes you happy, we are here to help.
