Hello, to all fellow Maverick and Ford lovers. Of many prior Fords, I'm about to tackle my first Maverick, its a 71 Grabber that some silly person ordered with a 200 6 cyl. That has been removed to make room for a late 5.0 with a T-5. I just scored a complete running Versailles last weekend for $300.00 wich will be donating its rearend and front brakes here shortly. My first question of many to follow, I know theres an issue with the Versailles front spindles. Can I use the lower control arm from the Vers. in the maverick to quonquer the lower Bj problem? Also has any one tried using the clunky Vers. control valve assy. to add P/S? Any info would be great. Thank You Dan
Welcome to the madness!!! What year Versilles is it.The pre 80 spindles will bolt right on to the mavs controll arms.Tie rod ends may be an issue. As for the power steering...Many just eliminate it and go to manual steering.(not hard to do)
The Versailles is a 79. My Grabber has its orig manual steering linkage still intact, Just leave it alone? It seems to steer easy just pushing it around unlike a 62 Lincoln for example.
I would leave it manual steer. The power stuff leaks like a screen door on a submarine.(most of the time)
I'll take that advise, TY Dan .Whats the scoop on dual exhaust? It looks like theres no room on the LH (drivers) side of the gas tank.
If you have a good muffler shop near you...They can bend and run a pipe down the left side no problem, just dont go bigger than 2 1/2 inch Diameter.
I must throw another question out there while I'm on a roll. What am I up against with cutting a hole in the floor for the T-5? Are there any factory marks on the floor pan that may have been there for a floor shift application? Or do I just start chopping? I through a T-5 in a 67 Cougar once, it lands perfectly in the orig auto hole.
No marks in the Grabber I had either, cut a small hole from the bottom and went bigger from the top.Shifter hole is gonna be the easy part.
