What does everyone do for Motor Mounts when you add horsepower? I know from past experience that the stock ones are not strong enough.
Yea but if I know you (your age anyway) you don't use half the power it has. You gotta get into it man! I would be intrested in stronger ones too. When you get alot of HP, I have seen plates used. I have always wondered who makes the plates.
Well, I don't know about half but I'm sure a more experienced driver could get better times than I have. I only got high 6's out of it. As soon as I can afford to spend about $500 for a good set of axles I'm gonna take it back to the track and play some more...with stock motor mounts.
I took out the pin on my mount and replaced it with a bolt many moons ago...never had a problem again! Here is a link to a similar discussion: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=31955&highlight=motor+mount+pin
I use two grade 8 flat head 3/8" NF bolts and run them through from the bottom after drilling and countersinking the holes - then use a Nyloc nut on top. This is almost a solid mount - it will compress but it will not extend at all. Use some 518 flange sealer on the bolts that go into the block - and upgrade to grade 8 bolts.
The nice thing about bolting them together is you still get some vibration absorption With the rubber compressing. I had solids in the car then did the bolt thing and was much happier.
I did the the old school thing, by wrapping or threading a swingset chain around the new mount, then connected the two ends of the chain with a bolt just snug enough to let the mount still work but catch on the chain before the rubber breaks.
That is the best way to have your cake and eat it too. I did the mounts on my Falcon that way. It's funny they can put a man on the moon and bring him back home...but they can't get rubber to stick to metal anymore.
