Today on 6/8/09 at around 2:20pm my tranny passed away. He was a hard working tranny that worked behind a 6 cycl and even made it for a while behind the V8. Maybe old age, maybe an AVS (acute valvular syndrome), who knows. Maybe the autopsy will reveal more. At this time I don't think it was due to chemical overdose.

So I got a recommendation from someone here for where to shop for a new tranny, I think it was PaulS that recommended someone. I want to get something that'll later hold up to my 331 that I'm building as well. The rear end is gonna be 3.55 eventually.

AOD would be sweet. Had one on the bronco and it's a nicy tranny but since I don't have anywhere near your mechanical skills (if anyone would even call what I have skills) I'm gonna stay away from it because they are expensive to have rebuild.

I would stick with a c4, from my experience with aod's I don't like them much, but that was the one in my mark vii not even 3,000 miles on a rebuild and the rear output shaft bearings went out. I would take a c4 over an aod anyday. but maybe I haven't had the right one.

PaulS recommends Jay at BroaderPerformance.com and so do I, he is in Texas and it will probably be a little wait before he could get one out to you, but you will be happy with it.

in L.A. theres mikes transmissions. hes susposed to be really good. in San Diego, i would recomend walbuilt transmissions or drw transmissions. either of them can build you a strong dependable c4

For what it is worth, I put a tci c4 stock with beefed up clutch pac's in my 74...
I bought it from summit racing, and have been very happy with it $638 dollars two years ago.. going to put a tci shift kit in it soon. Just don't do what I did, thinking it came with the bell housing..... Put a 2500/2800 stall and a tci flex plate with it..

PaulS only builds them for people that are relatively local to him, IIRC.

This is what i'm doing if/when mine gives out. $1450 is cheap compared to what I have been charged.
