what rearend is this???

    found another rearend :dance: just not sure if its the early 8" or what???any help would be appriciated.

    That's an 8 inch. The third member is the later one, has the extra ribs cast into it.

    Looks like an 8" - and all that blue RTV means somebody was in it recently - which could mean it has something good in it like a traction-lok or a nice ratio gear set.

    8 inch, it looks like the 1967 rear end I took out of a 1967 Cougar recently.

    appriciate the info guys...not much on rearends alls i know about this one is you can spin the axle shaft and the driveshaft yolk does nothing..but if you spin the yolk shaft both axles spin..????

    are you happy with the rearend from the cougar? just wanting somthing good for my 73 not the 72 Grabber

    It's an open differential. Not a traction loc.

    It looks like an early housing with a late chunk to me.:huh:

    How many times does the yoke go around to make the wheel spin one complete revolution?

    The chunk is definatly the stronger 68-up version.

    got it painted and looking good...however the drums wont fit...the center hole in the drums that i have are from the original 73 8" rear end and are too small. this rearend need drums with bigger holes in the center...WTF anyone know what size of drums will fit this or what this rearend is?i think the center hole needs to be 2 3/4? instead of 2 1/4 look at the picts and see what you think

    also found casting numbers D20W4668D on the rearend by the yolk anyone able to break down the casting numbers?
