Greetings to all the fellow maverick owners and enthusiasts out there! My Name is Joe and I am from San Jose, CA. a couple weeks ago I picked up from my father-in-law a 1970 Maverick with a 250. This Maverick has 113,000 original miles on it and is currently entirely stock mechanically. It originally belonged to my wife’s grandmother. About 12 years ago my wife’s uncle gave it the current burgundy paint job and added flow masters for a bit of fun. My father-in-law received the maverick from his brother a couple years ago ( I began to pine after it immediately ), removed the flow masters, the amp , and speakers and was preparing to return the car to its original “bumble bee” color scheme . My wife’s father is a classic ford nut having at least a dozen running ford classics from his model A’s to his mustangs. I was given the car a couple weeks ago in a bribe to quit smoking. I will have 6 months with no cigs in the middle of June. It took me all of a few hours to offer up my 25 year smoking habit for the maverick. This is the 2nd maverick I have owned. I had a 72 grabber in the mid-80s that I adored. I am not certain yet if I am going to leave it all stock and restore it to its original form. Or, make it the 80’s hot rod all us kids would have loved back then. I have all summer and more to think about it as I sand and prime the very straight body and scout for the few cosmetic items that will make it shine again. Seeee ya round!!! Joe
Welcome aboard Joe! Build that baby the way it makes ya happy! There's no real value in leaving a 70 bone stock. Matter of fact, they can bring more money down the road if it is tastefully resto-modded. Post pics and have fun with it.
welcome aboard! I had a mav at a bay area high school in the 80s and never heard any " i want one" responses. you must have been one of the four of us bay area guys that wanted a muscle car instead of a slammed mini truck or bug... the other two had a camaro and a chevelle...
to the board! Congrats on 6 months without the smokes. A buddy of mine is trying to give up smoking as well, he's having a very hard time with it and he's only been smoking for about 4 years.
I quit smoking when my son was born in 1984. The best thing that I ever did for myself. Hang in there.
Good luck with the car and may you remain smoke free. What a great bribe! Quit smoking made easy or what?
