Well My new tranny isn't going in this weekend. The first SNAFU is the new tranny was out of a 390 mustang and has had the 302 input shaft installed to make it fit my engine and when I order the shifter install kit I ordered the install kit to fit a 302 thinking that the tranny is being mounted to a 302 so the install kit should be for a 302.... Buzzzz wrong answer. Needed the shifter install kit for the 390 trans because even thought the tail shaft is tha same length the mounting holes are different. So I ordered the right shifter install kit and put that on next day air shipping and then when we pulled the old tranny someone had REALLY Jerry rigged the bellhousing.. I have got to take pictures of this thing for you guys. The Bellhousing that was in the car bolted up to the 3 + 1 O/D tranny and my 302 was a VERY modified 1979 Mustang T5 Bellhousing. Whoever installed it cut a big hole in the side of a T5 Bellhousing and installed a bunch of spacers under the clutch fork and drilled two hole to bolt the clutch fork in and actually mad a T5 Bellhousing bolt up to a 4 speed tranny. Craziest thing I've ever seen. But the more I think about this the more intersted I am in the way this was done would actually allow someone to bolt a T5 Tranny into a Maverick and use the Maverick clutch setup. If the "modification" was done a little better and mad to look nicer it would be a great way to hook a T5 into a maverick without having to use a cable clutch setup. Anyway I have the new Shifter install kit ordered and the bellhousing, Block Plate and clutch fork ordered and I am waiting to here from the person that I bought the bellhousing from to see If I can get him to ship it express shipping? I'll have to take a few pictures of this jerry rigged bell housing and pust them for you guys. The bellhousing also has a hole busted in the bottom of it that someone covered with a plate so I was going to turn it in to the scrap metal place for the aluminum and see how much I could get for it. But after thinking about it I really think I am going to hold on to it for a pattern just in case I ever decide to do a T5 Tranny in another Maverick
I mean basically this guy came up with a way to use a T-5 bellhousing with the stock clutch fork configuration. So if this had been done a little nicer and t ebellhousing didn't have a big hole in the bottom I could use this bellhousing to bolt a T5 into a Maverick without converting to a cable clutch or any other mods. Since the input spline is longer on a T5 I don't know how they bolted that 4 speed tranny in there and made it work but I have side stepped that clutch at 4500 RPMs and taken that car down the 1/4 mile at 98 MPH and gave it all it had more than once and it all held together. So however he rigged it up worked well as far as I am concerned. Didn't look real great once we pulled it all out and seen the jerry rig job the guy did but what the hell if it worked up until now I guess I shouldn't complain too much....LOL
well hopefully I will be getting my new bellhousing before thjis weekend and can get this new trans installed. I just emailed the person about the shipping on the bellhousing hopefully I'll pay for it today and he'll ship it today or tomorrow
