hey my names matt im 18 and had quite a few trucks but my first and only car is a 1970 maverick 170 i6 the floor boards are almost completely rotted steering feels like its about to fall out of the car but somehow i still fell in love with it so far i did lower control arms ball joints and bushings i also did a timing chain it was real bad but i got alot more to come so im hoping i can get some help here im doing the rest of the front suspension next and the floor boards not sure where im going with the rest yet i know im gonna keep it a i6 hoping to push a little over 370 horse out of it and maybe keep it a rat rod for now but im sure more plans will come they always do
Welcome aboard! :Handshake Hope you got lots of money if you're gonna get 370 out of a 170. Good luck with the car.
Wow, good luck with the HP. Easier to get a 302 conversion. Welcome to the board. Just a little advice: to get that HP out of a 170 You'll have to do some creative building, like a turbo. After that you've probably reached the limit (if you get there) and then after spending all that money, you'll probably go for the 302 swap anyway. Think about the 302 first and it can be stroked to 347, with however much HP you can afford. JMO
when i look at cars i look for things that are custom things no one else has something that makes the car a one of a kind i want to go with the 170 because its completely original and if built right with the right suspension under it it will compete with any 302 out there
I wish you luck on your venture but in my opinion I do believe that if you put say...$10,000 in a 170 and put $10,000 in a 302 that there will be no comparison. The 302 will eat the 170 for lunch...and supper. Now if you merely plan on making the 170 outrun a stock 302 you might not have that much of a problem. Again, I wish you luck whatever you do. As long as you are building a Maverick or Comet it doesn't matter what engine you run (as long as it's not a cheby)...we'll like it!
