First off, if I wanted to convert my 76 200CID 2door from an automatic transmission to a standard transmission what would be the best one to get? Which transmission would fit the easiest and with the least modifications? Secondly what all would be involved in installing this transmission and getting it working properly?
The bell housing will accept any Ford 3 speed or 4 speed that was used in the mid to late 60's or 70's. Either one would be an easy bolt in deal if you have all the components. Best bet would be to find another manual car and swap everything in. You will need one that has a 170 or 200.
That is what I was initially thinking, but the junkyards around here crush everything that is older than 1990.
I have the clutch/brake pedal setup and a 6 cylinder z-bar if you are interested. I also have the Frame side z-bar mount. The engine side mount is same as a Mustang. Also have the Clutch Pedal Helper spring but not the spring keeper. All for $45 shipped.
Well I think I figured out what I'm going to do. I'm going to flush my transmission with some seafoam, change out the filter and install a shift kit, if the transmission is good and holds up after that I'll just keep it, but if it falls apart after being serviced then instead of buying another auto I'll just get a standard.
