um........there are two bolts on top (under hood), and one on bottom. Anyone know what size the one on the bottom is??? I've tried every wrench and socket I have and nothing fits it right. It's not stripped....but nothing is fitting it right and causing it to strip. I just can't get a break, heh.
Actually there are two nuts on both the top and bottom of Maverick front shocks ... Tip - remove the bottom nuts first. DO NOT JACK UP THE CAR. If you jack up the car the lower A-Arm will block the nuts as the coil spring decompresses ... You will also need to remove the upper shock mounts to remove the shocks. If the bolts are rusty soak them overnight with a rust desolver. If you start spinning those bolts inside the shock tower they really suck trying to get out.
Max, in my drinking days I usually changed my socks before noon, before I got too drunk. Somedays I had my wife help me change my socks. It always seemed best to do it sitting down, and one foot at a time. As my drinking progressed, my desire to change socks dwindled. I would only change socks maybe once a week, and that was due to the insistance of my wife. Once I became clean and sober I found that changing socks was easily a daily event. Now, thru the help of many self help programs I even feel compelled to change socks multilple times a day to meet fashion of the clothes I change into. So, dont feel as if this has not happened to others. Maybe it is prevalent in people with the Maverick/Comet bug to once in awhile ask for help in changing socks. Carry on man! We are here for you! DO NOT JACK UP THE CAR If you do want to jack up the car, first place a block of wood beneath the upper control arm and the frame (?). The arm won't drop so far and the nuts are accessable.

LOL@Dan! Don't ask a shock to do a springs work. Shocks dampen spring oscillations, not support load. If you haven't fixed that rear leaf bushing you posted earlier Max, you are really wasting your time. Oh, and as for the high pressure KYBs, Mustang front shocks are the same, and the rears are a Granada/Ranchero part number, which have been discontinued.
Go with Monroe gas-charged OEM replacments. They're $10.88 each with a lifetime warranty, and that's all you need. KYBs are the LAST components you need until AFTER a COMPLETE suspension rebuild is performed. What you are wanting to do is like puting a $3000 stereo system in a $500 car. Polygraphite sway-bar bushings also help a great deal.
I usually pick my shock brand by the color! Went with Gabriel Red Gas in the front and White Hurst in the back ...

got the front shocks changed, car handles much better now. As for the bushings where can I get them? I looked at the autozone website but they don't have them.
