I'm a loose nut with a lost nut inside my frame.

So I *finally* managed to pry off the front bumper on Mira-2... to straighten the bumper brackets and straighten the body... oodles of WD-40 and a breaker bar got the bolts on the frame loose but - of course - the welded nut under the battery area is corroded and came loose inside the frame.

Now the nut is inside the frame rail and does NOT come out through the little opening...

Besides tipping the car up and shaking it like a piggy bank to get the nut to fall out, how do you clean, sand, paint, and replace a nut that you can't reach?

    :hmmm:

If your car is like mine the end of the frame rail is nearly closed off completely, my guess is that youre going to have to cut that panel out, reattach the nuts, then weld the end panel back on as I dont see any other way of doing it

Instead of tearing the car apart why not just leave the nut inside? Just drill the hole bigger than the original nut size, buy a new nut and weld it in.

That could work, good idea, I dont think it would stress the weld too much since it has another bolt holding it on.

Thanks guys!... I think you're both right... the frame end is capped off and I don't want to cut & weld anything to finish this job... all I really want to do is sand, prime, paint the area then put the bumper back on... I like the magnet idea to hold it in place but the problem is offset from the hole - only one of my angled wrenches will fit through (barely) to hold the nut while I re-mount the bumper and torque it.

I guess the only option is boring out the hole to let the nut fall out and make it easier to hold it back in place - that's not going to weaken the frame is it?

Not at all, especially if you weld the nut on all corners to the frame.
