I'm assuming a 4.11 is too high of a gear to put in my stock 8in; for street/track use? would a 3.55 or something around that be my best bet? i want a noticeable change.. help me make a wise choice boys..:drive:

    What's your tire size, cam, stall, etc. A 3.55 should be plenty for a stock- type setup. A 3.80 w/ a mild cam & maybe a 26" tire. A 4.10 with a nice lumpy cam, 3000 stall & a 26-28" tire. But, that's just my opinion....

    can't even get a 2.23 for an 8" that i know of...

as for the right gears, alot of different factors will play a role like mentioned... need to know engine specs (rpm range), tire size and vehicle purpose. 3.55's are a great all around gear and is probably something you should go with. if you have a bit milder engine than stock, go with 3.80's... these gears considering you have a 3 speed automatic (C4). if you have a tranny with overdrive (ie. AOD or T5) then you can run a steeper gear while still being able to cruise the highway.

    hope this helps some

Figure out what gear you need to run through the traps at your peak RPM.
You will need to know your tire diameter, Peak RPM and figure 1:1 through your transmission. My bet is you really don't want to run gears that steep on the street. It is no fun cruising down the freeway at 70 MPH with the engine spinning 4500 RPM!
I would say the best street and strip gears are 3.5 - 3.75:1.

Tire size has alot to do with it also. I run a 28 tire and a 4.11 and its a bunch, probably too much for traveling but at 60mph a 3.55 with a 26 tire only offers 200 rpm less.

If you have the stock gears they might be 2.79's (if I remember correctly but if not they are really close) or 3.00's

mavericks only came with a 2.79 or 3.00 gear.

look at your door tag, and under axle it will say 3 (2.79) or 6 (3.00)
