Hey everyone.. newb here. I joined this site for resource information on the Comet GT's. My father in law just picked up a 72 GT (his first car was a 71 Comet 302 non GT) for restoration (driver restoration). It has the common issues, rust at the bottom of the doors and quarters, a little rust on the drip rails (no through, easily repairable), battery tray, a small spot on the core support and on a couple very minor spots in the floor pan. The interior is shot so will need redoing, It is originally Poly Gold with a brownish interior and 3 speed manual (according to the door code) but is currently sporting a floor shifter C4. I'm not new to Mustangs, Mavericks, but am new to Comets and I think this will be a sweet lil project. Been browsing through a few of the build threads and must say there are some sweet cars out there.
Welcome, Tony, glad to have you with us. My Dad lives in Camden (Lugoff), so I am over that way a lot. Nice area. Good luck with the project!
Thanks for the welcome. We live in the Greenville area (he lives in Simpsonville and me in Greenville), but moved here from Charleston. Camden is a good drive from me (a couple hours).. I have spent some time working there at a couple of the manufacturing plants around there. It's a quaint little area.
Thanks y'all.. I'm sure there will be alot of questions along the way. He got the title today for the car, so now we can start the official work on it. Over the weekend we replaced the alt, batter cables, battery, and regulator... now to get to work on the exhaust so that the car will be drivable and tolerable (it's got some hackjob mismatched exhaust with longtubes on the car) The good news is that it starts and runs great.. just a slight puff of smoke on startup and that "been sitting for 16 years" smell. Some small details on the car is that it is a late 72 car with a D30E build code on the intake. It has a DSO of Atlanta, suggesting that it was a special order of some sort. The code for the interior trim is listed as a 73 color and the paint code is Poly Gold... I think that the paint is going to stay Gold but the interior is definitely going black
