I took my trunk off and lowered the passenger side hinge to get to the areas under the trunk directly under the molding(lots of rust)...however a little way down the trunk hinge snapped down and now its below the trunk line and I cant figure out how to un-latch it...I read from a post in 2003 something about resetting the trunk spring or something? or is it more simple then that?
Just pull it back up, and be careful, because it will take your face off if it gets loose when it snaps back up! Don't let it get out of your hand on the way up.
That didnt work, pulling up I was able to snap the tension bar completely off the hinge itself, now its between the bracket that holds the bar and the hinge itself and I cant get it back on.
This is what I have...I got the tension bar back on the bracket, but everytime I try to bring it up the tension bar pulls forward and out of its seat, then I have a partially lifted hinge thats too far back with a bent tension bar
Didnt work, the whole "just lift up" advice made the hinge bend, now I cant get my trunk on the car because the passenger side doesnt clear the body
Sorry. It's always worked for me. I bet I did it 20 times on my 71 while I had the trunk lid off. I can't image the hinge bending very easily. It shouldn't have taken a ton of force to pull it up.
I fixed it, I took the tension bar out completely and bent the hinge back, trunk is back on and ready to roll No problem, I wasnt saying you gave me bad advice, I think the tension bar went somewhere it shouldnt have and I thought thats where it was supposed to go, thats what I get for not anticipating a problem(especially with my luck). No worries dude, thanks for the advice, just because it didnt work for me doesnt mean thats not how you do it. :Handshake
is the trunk lid hinge suppose to elbow toward the front or rear of the car? mine is elbowed to the front and I can't get it to go the other way.
