Well I know that I surely couldn't change shocks/struts myself on my little japanese cars. I needed spring compressors and all kinds of stuff, but how hard is it to change the shocks on a maverick? Think I could do it with just a floor jack and some standard tools?

Also what would be the best performance shocks for me to get if I'm interested in handling? I'm not interested too much in drag racing, but I like to drift and drive hard, so what would be some good shocks to give me a really nice tight suspension?

Can't really help ya on the type of shocks to get, but yes they are nothing hard to change. All you will need is just you basic tools

KYB gas adjusts work quite nicely on my maverick

Get a gas filled shock. whan you get them they have a plastic band holding them in place DON'T take off the plastic till you are
guiding it into place. these shocks are under pressure inside.
they are always pushing up so they give you a LITTLE stiffer ride
yep you can do it just a couple of simple tools. DON'T cut plastic
till guiding shock in place. I can't say that enuff. John

Where would I get some good adjustable shocks? The autozone website just has regular ones, and when I go to the KYB site they don't have anything about which shocks fits on which vehicles.

You'd have to go to the sites that actually sell the products. Truthfully, I haven't heard of adjustable shocks for our cars. I may be wrong, but I don't think so.

There are lots of companys that make adjustable shocks, KYB (as mentioned) Competition Engineering, & Konie, are a few of them. Go to Summits websight or call them up. They will help you pick out what you need.

gas a just is only the name... they are not adjustable. also, kyb does not make gas a just rear shocks for mav any more. as i have said in other posts, we have 4leaf in back with kyb g-2 and kyb gas a just in front. the ride is (all things relative) pretty stiff but a major improvement in handling. the firehawks helped a lot too.

i don't know much about the other shocks. i have always had kyb. if you go to their web site or enter kyb on google you should find where to buy them. then just start calling around to get the best price.

Do the KYBs provide a really stiff ride? Cuz that's what I'm looking for. I like tight suspensions.

I'm ready to change my shocks, but what do I do about the springs? It seems that the spring is around the bottom of the shock, how do I remove them?

You dont have to remove the springs. Look underneath and and you should see a couple of bolts holding the shock in.....

hmm......anyone have pictures of a shock change? I just don't want to screw anything up. And on mine it looks like the springs are resting on the base of the shocks.

    Read: one nut on top.
two small bolts/nuts on the bottom of the upper A arm. Thats' it.
The shocks donot hold anything togather.
There isn't any way to screw it up.
