Installed a proper TV cable set up and B&M floor shifter this weekend. All in an attempt to see if the AOD trans even goes through the gears on its own.(Did I mention the 351/AOD swap was performed by a monkey with two left feet a cleft pallett and ball peen hammer for a right hand and a penchant for WELDING everything together??)Hooked everything up...put a dealer plate on the old girl and went for a ride.(doing it on jackstands just...isnt any fun)Terrorized the neighbor hood...but the durn thing just wont shift.Tried shifting manually...tried letting it go on its own...nuttin.Now I honestly didnt expect it to work so,I wasnt surprised. If it had worked...I would have thrashed out the front end re-build/disc swap/brake job.Electrical nightmares...core support replacement and proper radiator/taurus fan install and 3G alt swap, not to metion a few guages to monitor vital functions, and It would have been a fun driver for the summer.I have all the stuff sitting here to do it but,Its not going to happen till the trans is right. It wont be right till next winter when I give it to my tranny guy.Gotta concentrate the money/time on the blue beast. It was a fun weekend though. So I guess I am still stuck driving my 92 Fireburp formula beater for yet another summer. Such is life I guess...Just thought I would share.
What's wrong with shifting manually unless you have to get under the car and move the linkage by hand?
The problem is it wont shift.Manually or otherwise. If shifted manually I would be fine with it but...It wont.
The bad thing is if you went more than about a city block you may have burnt up the AOD. I used Lokar's set up when I swapped my 71 F100 to a 351w and AOD. It took me a couple of days in the shop to get the AOD right. If I followed Lokar's instructions to the leter it would never have worked. I went on-line looking for a solution and it seems everybody else at the time was have trouble with their directions. I don't know what kind of TV cable you are using but if it is a Lokar set up go with the cable more tight than loose. Tighter is always better. Right? Clint
Yeah...I followed my tranny guys instructions to the letter. The TV cable is set up as it should be.The thing is just non operational...last owner probably cooked it or...it went in the car cooked since the engine/trans combo came out of a fox stang drag car...Thanks for the heads up though cdeal...the lokar instructions make sense but...there are other ways to set it up properly without the rocket science.
Just a thought....you said it came out of a drag car, it's not a reverse pattern valve body by any chance is it?
