:banghead:I'm a little confused and exhausted after searching through the threads here and I would like to hear more from those who have done rear disc swaps, what they had and what they used.

I have a small bearing 9" axle from a Mustang I'd like to convert to discs before I throw it in the car. Some say 94ish Crown Vic brakes will fit and Exploder brakes will only fit the big bearing Torino style axles. Then others say Exploders will work on either. Which vehicle and what year should I pull the parts from?

Direct fit bolt on is the torino ends for the explorer. You can elongate holes or redrill new ones at a different clock position to fit the other ends....

I saw Franks article, and I guess from what Sir Mavowar says the Explorer brakes will fit, and I won't have to re-drill/clock the caliper brackets because the axle I have is a little wider. So Crown Vic brakes will fit as well? Sounds like either will work.

I hacked it in, so the axle is 3" longer overall, but I wanted a wider track to get my wheels away from the springs so it worked out good. The driveshaft hits the tunnel and I need to clearance it soon but it's workign great. I have probably under 500 into the rear swap

I am not a fan of the crown vic brakes. I hate calipers with the parking brake made internally. To many issues with sticking calipers. The explorer brakes are nice and you can get performance pads and rotors for a fair deal.

the explorer brakes do not fit the small bearing end. you will have to drill the small bearing end pattern in to the backing plates of the explorer brakes

That's what I heard somebody else say. I found somebody on ebay selling a kit with Cadilac brakes for $300 complete with rotors, pads, calipers, brackets, hoses, cables and hardware. I may go that route.

    Thanks for everyone's input. :thumbs2:

I elongate both sets of holes. Axle end and Backing plate. Works fine.
Over all an easy mod well worth the tad bit of extra work!!!
