so over the past day or two, my cars steering seemed to get sloppier and sloppier. until today it got very bad. i had to drive 40 mph and under. when i turn the wheel there is a spot when i turn to the left the wheel has no resistance, than it feels normal. i think it might be the ball stud in the power valve...or my lug nuts are loose...lol. i had bad u joints (really bad vibrations) so there might be other things that are loose aswell. so what could this be...any suggestions are welcome, i will be checking things over tomorrow. thanx in advance (y)

thats a statement that refers to the driver.

you need to jack up the car, put on jack stands. get a friend to help will make it easyer. have the stearing wheel moved from lock to lock and look over the entire stearing syste. you should find the loose componets. if you dont have a friend then lay under the car (while its safely on jack stands) and start pushing and pulling on the wheels and all the stearing componets untill you find you loose part.

i actually checked the power steering valve, and there is tons of play so i went and purchased a rebuild kit (for the ball stud not the whole power valve) and hopefully that fixes it

if not check the gearbox and all the steering linkage for play like Bryant stated. also dont be afraid to double check the balljoints. sometimes parts are bad from the factory, especially aftermarket.

Oh no here we go. Been down this road. Hope it works for you. As for myself I took an oath to never work on that system ever again. I think Ford built that just to make the lives of techs shorter and have a good laugh at us. :rofl2:

Best way to fix the power steering set up on a Mav: Remove it and go manual steering. It will give you fits and nightmares.

Mine does the same thing, my problem is the linkage right after the steering box that connects to the suspension....lots of play...need to fix...I normally have to turn the wheel 1/6th of a turn before I encounter any type of resistance
