A mustang II frount end, a ton of frame, body, and suspenion mods, and whole bunch of screaming and yelling
Now a Fairmont, Mustang, T-bird, and others...that's a different story. FRPP makes a swap kit for all of the FOX body cars. They make great sleepers!
Now if you want so real go for that mav i got a 351w police interceptor i could let go for 300 it bolt up and go.
Do a search. I asked a while back...I think I am going to attempt it myself. Robert Raney is in the process of doing it as well. Mustang II front end, and motor plates Jeff Given
hooboy! It would take at least eleven cases of beer to get a 429 or 460 into a Maverick or Comet. If there are unexpected complications, you can count on adding at least one bottle of whiskey to the previous estimate. Oh and a torch will come in handy too.
here we go again........other than mavman who here has ever put a M2 frontend under thier car:?:.......if so then why answer a ????? that you have absolutly no idia on:confused: for crying out loud when someone asks a small block ??? I don't go spouting off on somthing that I have no experiance with......I found the M2 swap pretty easy and strait forward......it took a couple weekends(and might I add no beer).....all it takes is comen sense......good resurch......and some welding experiance (I am by no means a great welder)and alot of measurements.......what you do end up with is a lot more room and better steering......with the shock towers gone there is lots of room my big block looks right at home......anyway I set the motor in today and I hope to hear it run tomorrow.......if interested I can post some pics here or look over on fordmaverick.com I have pics up there all the time my screen name there is mavericknutt.......
"here we go again........other than mavman who here has ever put a M2 frontend under thier car:?:......." Yes, but my car was a 70 Mustang. The main technical difference is that the frame rails are 27.5 inches apart on a Mustang and 26.5 inches on a Maverick. It is an easy conversion if you are a very good welder. If you are just learning to weld, I recomend that you hire that part out to someone with enough experience to assure proper weld penetration and strength. (this is not a place to experiment.) It can be made easier if you use a properly engineered kit from any of several manufacturers. The kits assure you of proper track width, steering and anti-dive geometry. But there is no reason you could not do this yourself, in a garage using a Pinto front crossmember. From Experience, I can tell you that under the weight of a 429/C6 combo, the Pinto sheetmetal crossmember will sag and bend. Your call.
Hey Robert - I've been following your posts on your Big Block. Pretty exciting. I just popped over to FordMaverick to get a look. In the words of the guy on the Dodge Hemi commercial--SWEEEEETT:bananaman. A couple of questions if I might ask --- Are you using a C6 or a C4 trans? Did you move or modify the trans crossmember? Did you have to notch the oil pan or anything? What style pan are you using? Were you able to maintain stock position of the master cylinder? Also I saw a photo of your MII conversion and it looked like you were using the stock lower arm. How big of a job was it to attach the rear control rod to the Mav subframe? I'm really interested in learning something here. I think I've got about all the parts pulled together to start taking a serious look at one of these conversions myself. Cleaver
Yeah,I know that its alot easier in a Fairmont hence my user id! Built an `80 2dr sedan last year with a 5.0/5spd and a whole aftermarket suspension including tubular k-member,but had to get rid of it due to some unforseen problems and now want to build what I wanted to build in the first place....a Maverick.Man I miss that car, beating up on newer vettes and LS1 camaros....ohwell....
Cleaver I am running a oil pan from a 88 ford p/u and a c-6 I built a crossmember for the tranny yesterday the master cylinder is in stock location and I am running controll arm elimenators.....as far as the m2 stock cradle bowing the only way it could was if the frame rails were bowing too:confused: but time will tell mine is braced well and I have snout bars as well.....and for the record I finally heard by beast run today
