Check the constant voltage regulator attached to the back of the dash.

so I ohm'd the sending unit again

    .06ohm full tank ?

I checked my F100 against it at .12 ohm at 1/8th tank?

So is this thing shot or going crazy at intervals?

I don't know the sending unit specs, but here are a couple of other ideas if this still has you stumped ...

The wiring harness that feeds the whole gauge pod is one big vertical clip. I had mine get loose at the top ( vibrated loose, not pressed all the way in). Had a couple of dash items go haywire while the rest worked fine.

Also, the circuit boards on these dash pods tend to break down after a while. They are not supported very well. Maybe the printed circuit has a crack and could be fixed with a bead of solder.
