In the business section of the Detroit Free Press there is a article about Ford Motor Companys plans to combine Wayne Assembly and Michigan Truck plant. It will be called "Michigan Assembly" and production will start in 2010 with a new Focus and the Ford Fiesta. There is a "Made at Wayne" section of cars that were built there. The Edsel, Galaxie, Maverick, and Granada. There is a nice picture of a 4 door Maverick. Maverick was only built one year at the Wayne plant 1974 model year. I am retired from Wayne Assembly and I am happy to here that Production will remain here in this country at Wayne MI. In 1974 I was in the plant and saw for myself new Mavericks comming off the line one after another. I ordered a red V8 Grabber. I worked there from 7/77 to 1/08.

My brother worked at the truck plant in, Wayne, Michigan. He drove the trucks off the line. Got to take some on test drives. He retired last year, after 33 years there.....

No, I don,t have any pictures of the plant when I was there in '74. I wish I did though. I was not an employee yet. I went in there with my brother who just started there so I could decide on a color for my order. I wanted red/black or white/black or yellow/black. I chose red but the car I have now is white/black and my friend Willie has the yellow/black! There were Maverick/Comets everywhere as far as you could see. I walked through the trim department where my brother worked then chassis then final line then pre delivery. I saw a red/black Grabber with buckets, floor shifter and V8, I fell in love with that car! I wanted to be a part of Ford Motor Company. I started in July of 1977 building the Granada and Monarch, two very hot products for Ford. In 1980 we began Escort production whitch lasted until 1999. In 2000 Focus production began. I worked mostly in chassis, end of final line and pre-delivery as an assembly operator, inspection, some qualilty control. I retired in January 2008
