So slowly but surely, I am realizing I got the most basic Comet possible. First manual brakes and steering, now I am realizing it does not have a lighter. Now the problem is I do road trips here and there, I use my gps a lot and after about 3-5 hours it dies, any suggestions on how to get some other form of charging in there?

couldn't you find a mav or comet with a cigarette lighter and install it in the stock hole? ask around, maybe someone has one.

Well the thing is, the spot where the lighter would be is kinda of blocked. It has a black block in it, like it wouldn't have the inside parts and opening for a lighter. Can you make one?

Buy a universal lighter w/ the plastic mounting tabs... drill 2 holes somewhere and mount it. Your done.

The block can be popped out, just has tabs--at least the ones I have seen. There is a connect, L shaped, behind that you can plug into. So either get one as mentioned by some or better yet find one from a Mav/Comet that had one in it.
Good luck--it should be easy to do, and do right!

Someone on here should have a used lighter, the wiring is already behind the dash, you just have to pop the plug out, and find the blue wire.

If the wiring is there like they say, its alot easier than I thought.

Just go get a universal lighter at any parts store. They are about $6

I just replaced the one in my Safari, and its really simple

Popped the little plate out, couldn't find the correct wire, so I just ran a direct hotline with an inline fuse. Easier than I thought.
