Im wondering if the rear bumper is the same as a 72 and earlier or if they stick out farther. Becuase mine has mustang style bumper mounte but seems to stick out farther then others and have not seen any like this. It also has larger lower 1/4 caps then 72 and earlier models is this correct or just a conversion not 100% correct?
the 73 bumper is the same as 70 to 72 it just isn't tucked with the smaller pieces below the quarter extensions
The 73 bumpers uses different brackets than the 70-72, and 73's also have the rubber extension piece that fills the gap between the bumper and the quarter (also 73 only) You can replace your 73 bumper brackets, with the ones off a 70-72, and remove the rubber filler, and also replace it with the little thingy that was also used on 70's-72's. I did this on my car.
first get rid of these View attachment 32501 and get these View attachment 32502 i dont recall needing to changing the mounts but maybe i'm wrong
Yea, you definitely have to change the mounts. The '73 mounts space the bumper further out off the body.
ok i think i know what your talking about, the piece on the inside of the bumper so you can bolt it to the brackets in the trunk
It's amazing, you can learn something new everyday. I didn't know that about a 1973 rear bumper being different from the '70-'72 rear bumpers and how they are mounted.
