You should contact PaulS, one of our members here. He builds performance c4's. Send him a pm and see what he tells you.

If you are mechanically inclined it is probably one of the easiest units to rebuild. I did one with no extra store bought tools. Read a couple of books and it is not hard to do. Just keep everything in order and clean.

Yes, what he said. I had PaulS rebuild mine, with a shift kit. Great job! That was 7 years ago. I think I'll have him go thru it again..... Where are you at?

If that is $800 in the car, then it's not to bad of a price. If you are taking it in, I think it's a little high. I took mine in and had it done for about $600.:)

Whay part of the country are you at? What are you running for an engine?
What do you have for HP? what do you want your transmission to behave like?

I think the area you are in makes a price difference as well. I took the c6 from my F100 in for a rebuild at a well known shop and it was only $375. Very happy with it 2 years later. I would shop around and stay away from the big shops that advertise on TV. Find a speed shop near you and ask them who rebuilds for the race crowd in your area. Find a smaller owner owned shop.
That is how I found Bill Trans. here in Charlotte.

Flamesoldier where do you live? There is a guy near the Milan Drag Strip in Michigan that is awesome and charges $430 complete rebuild. Upgraded servo $60 more.

I got mine back and in and believe if I had a manual I couldnt shift faster than the auto C4 he built for me. I even got rubber between first and second in the auto C4

You can't shift faster than my C4s- with or without a manual valve. Even the weakest C4 I build will smoke the tires on full throttle 1-2 shifts.
