:)Can anyone tell me for sure, how much fluid, and what type,a '90 Mustang T5 holds, if drained dry? I have B&M slick shift in it now, but I was told that Dextron lll is the best. Thanks,

If its shifting OK keep the slick shift, We have ran everything in them from synthetic 90 weight to 20 weight motor oil. The only difference we have noticed is the shifting. If a heavier weight is used its harder to shift when cold. I will say the GM syrco-mesh is probably the one that produces the smoothest shifts. I think we usually buy 3 Quarts and have a little left over.

Blown 5.0; thanks so much. I am having a bit of a vibration issue, and I want to eleminate the trans. I removed the drive shaft, and ran it through the gears, no vibration at all. It does shift a bit hard. I was thinking that the Dextron lll might make it shift better and run a bit smoother. Thanks again,:)

    Wait a minute

Careful what you put into your T-5 transmission. It is my understanding that Ford only recommends ATF - automatic transmission fluid.

I would not put any kind of motor oil in my T-5 trans.

Ford may recommned just the ATF but every guy Ive talked to at trans shops have told me to run some motor oil in it for lubrication properties.

    I've had a few
I've always heard that GM fluid blown 5.0 mentioned is the best to run in them. I put Royal Purple ATF in the T5Z I put in my dad's 95 Mustang about a year ago. Have about 12,000 miles on it now and it works great so far.

There is a pipe plug that a 3/8 ratchet fits into on the right side of the trans. Just take that out and fill it until it overflows out of that hole. Good to go.

We do run motor oil in most of our C4s, I have personally torn these down for a fresh up and the clutches as well as other parts look better than with AFT, No scuffing on the thrust or plate wear. When i said i have ran everything in the T5s i have. With no adverse affects. On the Dodge automatics in our fleet if motor oil IS NOT used they have to be overhauled around 80k miles. With the motor oil they will go over 200k. As always this is just my opinion from personal experience.

I thought Mercon V is what your sapose to use in a T5z... This is one thing I need to decide on when I install my trans... I'm probably going to go with full synthetic but just trying to figure out which one... Dex, Merc, Type F, Trick Shift, etc... which one will provide the best protection for all internals?
