I possibly have a trade worked out on a carb. The carb will go on a 351w that has a dual plane intake, mild cam and shorty headers. The tranny is a stock C6 and the rear has 4.62 gears with a spool. It had an 850 holley on it and it was way to much. A member on here is interested in trading me a 600 Holley Dp for it. He thought the 600 might be a little to small for my motor but I think it will be plenty. Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated
You will get very crisp throttle response from a 600 on a 351.Air velocity will help bottom end and mid range TQ with the 600 but a 650 would be better suited to a mild 351 that sees weekend warrior duty.
And on the other side of that coin, my dad's old car had a 4100 600cfm on a 352 that ran like mad, same carb I now have on my 302. Unless you're looking to get every last bit out of it, 600 would do nicely, but will cut you a bit short over 5000rpm. If you've pushed it with an 850, you'll notice the low and mid RPM torque is better, throttle response is better, but it will drop of a bit earlier.
turned out the 850 was way outta tune and it was actually a 650. I had looked at a site wrong. I prefer small carbs. I run a 600 VC holley on a mild 401 FE in my pickup and it is plenty
